You know how when you were little, your Mom or Dad would count down from five if you were doing something and they wanted you to stop? What happens when they get to one? Here is what happens for me:
My Mom is usually the one to count down. Most often it was when we were somewhere, a park, school, to pool, and she wanted us to get in the car to leave. It would always start at five, and it rarely ended at zero. When it did, she would turn around and start to leave! James and I usually came running after that. As we grew older, we started to learn her secret, she never would leave us. We delayed longer and longer. She doesn't count down anymore, but there is an invisible shot clock, and she will turn and pretend to leave. Recently she went as far as leaving one of us at school, wondering where she was. She came around the corner a second later, she never really left.
Still, I don't let that invisible shot clock reach zero, because at some point in my life she will determine that it's safe to leave me stranded for half an hour.
Were your parents ever able to get to one? If so what happened?
